Google Chrome OS might be here by end of year

Google Chrome Netbook OS

Google Chrome Netbook OS

Google Chrome OS is an operating system being built specially for netbooks (i hope it’s an instant-on/quick OS). It was announce earlier this week and after that, some leaked photos proved its existence.

The Google Chrome OS is an open-source project and you know what it means. Basically, this means that source code of the Google Chrome OS is available for developers. And while Google Chrome OS is not yet finalized, different versions might also be released and available within the year. But take my words with grains of salt.

Liliputing has a more detailed thought.

Who’s not excited to try this new OS? I think this is indeed a good news for us, isn’t it?

Yes folks! The first ever photos of Google Chrome OS were posted today. Apparently, the photos were stolen while a Google Rep left the demo unit unattended in front of a devil’s eye.

Visit the authors blog for more details and explanation behind the photos.

Google is announcing on their blog about their new project- Google Chrome Operating System. It’s been 9 months since they introduced the Google Chrome browser with the interest of the users in mind. They (Google) think that users need better and faster operating system which is not available yet. Thus, Google Chrome is coming by 2010.

The operating system will run on x86 and ARM platforms. It will use the Linux Kernel and will put the Chrome new windowing system on top.

This is a separate project from Google Android. Android is targeted for a range of devices such as mobile and handhelds, while Google Chrome OS is being designed for the People. So whether you use netbooks or laptops or desktops, as long as you love the web, it’s for you.

I know it’s still under development and somehow excited to get a Live USB already. The project sounds promising and somewhere out there, I want to try this new OS. I’m imagining it’s gonna be something like some instant-on OS available around, but has a capability of adding new applications you need other than the built-in ones. It will also give you full access to your netbook like your ordinary primary OS.
