PortableApps could be a good sibling to Asus Eee PC XP version

Asus Eee PC Portable Apps for XPWhile lack of storage is still one of the major trade-offs on Eee PC XP version, there are always some ways to utilize the tiny space to be used for other applications. The XP version comes with the full version of Works, which makes a good alternative to MS Office. EeeSite suggested to dump it and use OpenOffice instead. OpenOffice eats lesser space from your 4GB.

Another way to utilize the space is to not install OpenOffice at all. What you just could do instead is to have and extra USB Flash drive or SDHC and download portable applications there that are very useful in terms of Office, Internet or Development works. Once you installed PortableApps on your flash drive, it will automatically run when you inserted it on a Windows XP environment. The Standard Suite consists pretty much all the applications you need with your routine. PortableApps is absolutely FREE for everyone.

I have not tried this, as well as XP, yet on my Eee PC. Maybe someday I will.

I’m a big fan of the Portable Apps suite as well. I keep OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Audacity, AbiWord and a few other items on my keychain flash drive for whenever I travel. I’ve got room on my Eee PC for all of these programs, but if I didn’t I would definitely be using the portable editions.

Portable Apps has been my companion since I got a USB flash drive. It just keeps things handy, like what you said, during travels… or whenever I use PC on computer shops…

By the way, I am grateful to receive a comment from you… I didn’t expect it. It’s certainly a pleasure…
