Microsoft Security Essentials now Free, Tried on Netbooks

Microsoft Security Essential turned Free for public download just recently. And while it could generally run on Windows XP/Vista and the new Windows 7, it also does not require too high system requirements. So basically, any netbook running any of the mentioned OS can also run this software.

MDR of Netbooks Philippines spent some time trying out the MS Security Essential. According to MDR, downloading and installing the software did not give him a hassle. While it run, it also did not take too much punishment to his netbooks (hp mini and eee pc), allowing him to browse the internet using Google Chrome and do some Office tasks at the same time.

I am currently using McAfee software and so far I have not encounter any problem. But I will definitely try this one out soon. What security software do you guys currently use on your netbooks? (or laptops and desktops)

I do not use antivirus on my netbook. It’s of course not recommended for the average user.

For me I am very cautious on what to install (from where I get installation packages and so on) and browsing internet. Also I’m logged in as a non admin user. This has worked well for me for the last three years.

If I find a free low impact antivirus I might try it.
