My apt.conf file, which I did not create or edit, is telling apt to acquire the internal network address of my gateway. When I try apt-get it invariably tells me "connection refused". I just wonder, shouldn't it be the external IP address of my gateway, or does it already know this? I did try to create a hole in the firewall for apt-get to get through, but it didn't work. I wonder what I should do to fix this.

I have ubuntu on a EeePC so this topic seems relevant.
