I am getting to the very last seconds of the install and then the 'blue screen' displays with :-
STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x00000001,0xF79E3ABC,0xF79E37B8)
If I restart the eeePC then the install starts again and fails again at the same point

Theoretically you won't, because netbooks only sell with 1 GB of RAM, as that's the upper limit for Windows 7 Starter these days. So, if they were to come with 2 GBs of ram or more, they'd also come with WIndows 7 Home Premium that would jump the price but at least 70 bucks.
However, some might offer an upgraded version of the 1025C without an OS, at least that's what I'm hoping for.

I don’t know what to say Eunice. Also, expect more and more devices to be encased in the near future, as producers try to make them slimmer. See ultrabooks for example

Bogdan, it might depend from market to market, but I’m 90% sure it’s going to be soldered in Europe and the US. what i do hope to happen is for windows to lift the memory limit once they release Windows 8, so these devices will come with 2 GB of RAM as standard. I mean word on the street is that memory on this model is soldered directly to mobo, with some ppl saying otherwise, that there is a normal so-dimm slot, only not directly accessible via quickaccess bay. So which way is it? Can one upgrade memory on 1025ce when sacrifice of warranty is made?
some rants about 1025ce and asus in general:
what a major way for asus to f*** things up, this netbook model had a great chance to be a superseller in europe, i mean talk was for such a long time to have hdmi/usb3 on netbooks. i know amd e450s have it, but they cost 100€ more and have worse battery life.
another stupid idea is the color selection for 1025ce, only 3 crappy colors, no black/white or at least darker colours.
its like that "we make only glossy netbooks because finger magnets are the best" thing that asus had for years, would it really hurt asus to do all-around-perfect netbook for a change? yes, asus you were very close, but no candy this time either :-)

Hi Mark, thanx for nice review. 1. Kids will be kids and break/damage things
2. There are bad people in this world and they do bad things
3. You can find/do ANYTHING on the internet
So if you are going to get your kid(+13) a laptop you may want to do thease things..
1. Dont let them have unlimited internet use so lets say 30 min(non school work) on a school day and 1 hour on a weekand/time off(NOT counting summer!)
2. Dont let the laptop be kept in their room! This could lead to sneaking on
3. Make sure it stays at home and isnt taken to friends houses or school(inless they have teacher aprovel and have talked to mom.
So i hope what i said helps you please dont take getting your kid a laptop lightly it is a big desission. And please think if you all of a suden had a laptop all to yourself as a kid what would you have done?

Ok let me tell you something A 6-12 YEAR OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE A LAPTOP!!!
