Touchscreen on Asus Eee 1005HA

Asus Eee 1005HA was release sometime last year, if I am not mistaken it’s around September in the Philippines. It came with Windows XP. Later in October, Windows 7 was released. Now, this new OS packs better touchscreen support and for the 1005HA to enjoy that service, one has to modify it and install a touchscreen panel. And someone has got it working with tutorials on how he did it.

Thanks, Alan.

ASUS Eee PC T91 Specifications

The EEE PC T91 is a tablet convertible netbook with 8.9″ display. It was first introduced months ago as a prototype and it’s now materialized.

It sports a new Intel Atom Z520 with 1GB RAM. It also comes with a 32GB SSD and 20GB online storage. 16GB SDHC may also come in the package. Unlike other netbooks, the T91 has a built-in battery to give a stronger placement of the swivel hinge.

Apart from Windows XP, the T91 also comes with Touch Gate – a quick boot OS to give you quick access to some instant application you might just need like Notepad, Internet Explorer, etc.

The current version is does not feature GPS, TV Tuner and 3G. So it’s possible that in the coming months, there could be T91GPS, T91TV and T91GO models.

This netbook is currently priced at under $500.

UPDATE: A reader noted that there’s already T91A and T91GO versions. Cary, Thanks!

UPDATE: I was well aware that it’s GMA 500 and not 950. Thanks Muki

Windows 7 Draws the Future for Netbooks

Touch Screen EEE PC T91

Touch Screen EEE PC T91

Windows 7 RC1 has been out for a while and will expire license in a while as well. In March of 2010, Windows 7 will start thinking by itself and will make your laptop/netbooks reboot themselves after every 2 hours. Many users have tried and I like to try it too. One of the many features that Windows 7 offers is its great support for touchscreens. And while there’s not a lot of laptops and netbooks with touchscreen, why did Microsoft built Windows 7?

Apart from the touchscreen features, Windows 7 has a lot more to offer including fresh new look, more memory-friendly compared to Vista or XP, improved speed and responsiveness and most importantly, it runs very well on Atom-powered devices. Microsoft has announced stoppage of support for Windows XP but has been extended and extended and extended again. Right now, I don’t have any idea if it’s really gonna end.

Now, based from a report (Digitimes), touch panel makers are seeing netbook makers coming their way to order bulks of touchscreens for netbooks. They believe that netbook makers are going to utilize the touchscreen potential of Windows 7 and that’s pretty nice. Consumers will more likely shift to touchscreen netbooks soon, however, there will be a slight or maybe large increase in pricing. Touch panels costs $2.5 – $3 per inch, and while most netbooks today measures 10.1″ to 12″, you can do the math. Report also says that touchscreen panels might replace the current touchpad we use, though I think it’s bad idea.

When netbooks adopt touchscreen for good, I think there might as well be a battle of Android and Windows 7. Android shows a lot of potential as well when it comes to ‘touchscreen-ability’, at least in some mobile phones.

Touchscreen Eee PC coming with Windows 7

This image is not official

LAPTOP Magazine interviewed Asus CEO Jerry Shen, and reveals some info about their upcoming Touchscreen Eee PC. Shen said that the touch-enabled Eee PC will launch by mid of 2009 and will come with Windows 7. This might be probably true, though there’s no release date for Windows 7 yet. Not that I know of. He also added that they are looking in to a convertible form factor or regular laptop form (clamshell).

IMO, the convertible form factor might sell better since it’s most applicable form for touchscreen devices. Besides, a clamshell form is now old-fashioned, kind of.
