MSI wants to get ahead of the game

Intel Pine Trail-M

Intel has decided to postponed offering of the Intel Pine Trail-M platform to manufacturers to first quarter of 2010, but Micro-Star International (MSI) is pushing through their planned release of new netbooks based on Pine Trail-M on December. According to some reports, MSI wants get ahead of other manufacturers and avoid price competition.

MSI is said to release netbooks with touchscreen capability running Windows 7.

On the other hand, while Asus and Acer already have Pine Trail-M-based netbooks, they are following Intel’s release date.

MSI Wind U120H 3G HSDPA

The MSI Wind U120H is the 3.5 HSDPA version of Wind Netbooks. It was first launched at CES 2009 which created a bit of suspicion to whether the netbook will get a touchscreen or not. One day there’s a touchscreen, the next day there’s none. Apparently it was only hacked with touch panel. Anyway, below are the specs we are seeing so far on MSI Wind U120H based on Complink product page. The store sells the netbook for Php 27,999 in the Philippines.

A note on 3G- I’m not sure if this one has the 3G module open for telcos in the Philippines.

MSI Wind U200 Hands-on Video, CULV

NewGadgets.de got their hands on the newly introduced MSI Wind U200. The device has a 12″ screen, 1.2 Ghz M Celeron CULV processor, along with ordinary netbook parts including a working 3G slot under its battery.

MSI has been successful on their Wind netbooks line and this new netbook which is a bigger brother of the U100 could probably keep the company at high rank.

The Mac Wind – Video

I have not seen the Mac OS to work on the MSI Wind personally, but this video from Sascha convinces me enough that I now like to have a hacked MSI Wind with Mac OS. The OS itself is pretty cool, and what’s best is that everything works on the MSI Wind. The MSI Wind might be a low-powered netbook but I’m pretty sure that it can do anything you expect a netbook should do.

There’s a rumor around that Apple is building their own netbook, and currently working with Wintek for the touchscreen panel, and Quanta for the production. There’s still no leaked photos of the actual netbook but however it would look, I can’t imagine it coming just like ordinary netbooks. I’m sure, because it’s apple, it will sport very unique properties than the rest. At least physically.

That’s fun. But I think it could be even funnier if I do those things to others’ pictures.

HotHardware Overcloked the MSI U100

I am not very particular to netbooks when it comes to speed and performance. In fact, I’m very satisfied with what my current netbook brings, it’s an Asus Eee PC 700. But the guys from HotHardware just made me think again. I must opt for a faster and better one.

hotHardware scored an MSI U100, upgraded the BIOS to the latest, and overclocked the CPU up to 2Ghz. The results were very convincing and drolling is allowed. What they actually loved about this is the manufacturer itself, being able to provide overclocking support by just pushing buttons. Hit the following link to see results. MSI 3G Plans

MSI Wind U120 will be launched in the coming days, and while 3G module is expected, MSI is also going to negotiate with telecom providers to increase bundled sales. – Digitimes. Same has been tried before, bundling the netbooks with external broadband modem. In the Philippines, Globe and Smart Telecoms had different campaigns for Asus Eee PC, however, I have not heard about their successes. Consumers seem to be not satisfied with the pricing, as I learn from some blogs and forums.

Now I have no idea what will telecoms do with their pricings when 3G module already comes with the netbook itself. I suggest they do the same as the mobile service plans they currently have, where they charge monthly service fee, and the unit comes free… Or at lesser prices depending on service plans.

I’m actually exited for this, and I’m gong to consider getting one for me. Shall this come true before christmas?

MSI U120 3.5G in November

MSI will be launching their MSI Wind U120, somehow a twin brother of U100 since they have almost same specs under the hood, except that U120 is going to have 3.5G technology (as i calls it). In November, there’s gonna be another on the GO PC like the Asus Eee PC 901 Go. With 3.5G, all you’re gonna need is an unlimited data plan, a monstrous battery backup, and a lot of finger hand and eye exercise and you’ll be happy.

This all we learn from Digitimes. Oh, it’s priced at $552. In the coming months, let’s expect rebates and discounts, shall we?

Netbooks are the current BIG thing in the gadget galaxy, like every BIG manufacturers of electronic devices are jumping in the bandwagon trying to get a bite of the pie. Netbooks are small, “so much ultra-portable”, fast, reliable and most importantly, very affordable (not all). When first generation netbooks came out, users have been satisfied of most of the features, but annoyances about the very limited disk space was heard from the majority. The next generation of the latter tried to address this issue but with extra cost. But some people prefer to upgrade disk space themselves, at least they know and everyone knows they can do it. And these guys, I really admire their works because their talents is something that I am deprived of having.

MSI Wind ‘Rumored’ to increase price by $50

If you’re the type who waits for price-cuts before buying an item, you’d probably not like buying MSI Wind anymore for it’s rumored to add $50 on their current prices.

According to ULPCS, MSI is unable to obtain more components to sustain production. Seems like they cannot avail cheap components they used to have before.

This is exactly what I thought to happen upon knowing that MSI Wind has the lowest price amongst netbooks. But the good thing is that MSI Wind will still have fair price compare to others.
