3G/4G Dell netbooks from Sprint, available on Halloween

Probably most of you were expecting netbooks with built in 3G/4G and there’s no better moment to release them into the wild than around a national holiday. Business buyers will have the chance to preorder the Dell Mini 10 model on Halloween, while Dell Inspiron 11z will be available a little later, from already-in-the-4G-game communication service provider Sprint, says electronista.com.

The 2 netbooks can connect to 4G networks, EVDO or WiMAX. The advantages of having 4G on a powerful machine are amazing, from streaming to downloading really big files up to 10 times faster than 3G. It brings a lot of peace of mind to those working with big files and multimedia tools and are constantly online.

Starting with November 14^th, both Dell Mini 10 and Dell Inspiron 11z will be available for wider audiences. The two netbooks will probably catch on to other providers and we might see a lot of them around Christmas and New Year in special offers (and probably a lot as Cyber Monday 2010 deals). Sprint will practically give the Mini 10 for free if you sign a contract with them, while the more powerful Inspiron 11z will be available for about 150 dollars in the same conditions.

If you put together 4G and a netbook, probably the first thing that comes to mind is streaming HD content. The Mini 10 gets a standard hardware lineup, with a 1.66 GHZ processor, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD and most importantly has the Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator for some serious 1080p streaming. The Inspiron 11z walks in a more select crowd and will probably have better specs than the models available on the market now. It’s certain that it will have a Core i3 CPU and at least 2GB of RAM and we expect a suiting video card.

All in all, what’s important as that if you’re looking for a traveling mini laptop with instant Internet access on the fly, these two Dells are great options, especially if you consider how affordable they are when bought together with a Sprint data plan.

Xitrix seems to discretely announce their entry on the netbooks bandwagon with Xitrix TravelPro M10 Netbook. To tell you honestly, this is the first time I heard of the company but the specs they bundled for their entry is somehow impressive compare to its price.

Coming in at Php 18,995.00 (before Friday the 13th), it rocks 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD and an Intel Atom N270 and runs on Windows 7 Starter Edition. It also comes with an external DVD+RW so you won’t have to look for one separately.

The higher end model sports built-in 3G module.

The Nokia Booklet 3G started shipping in the US last week. And while the units sold at Best Buy only have Windows 7 Starter Edition, Engadget Spanish received the one with Windows 7 Home Premium. As we all know, the Starter Edition has very limited features. And if you happen to recently avail that version, you may contact product support and ask for an upgrade of the OS. I’m not sure if it will come free of charge. And if you happen to already have a copy of the Home Premium, you may follow our little guide on how to install Windows 7 on netbooks.

Nokia Booklet 3G

The Nokia Booklet 3G is surely a beautiful piece of art for the netbook category. It has solid-built aluminum body, thinner than most netbooks and probably has all the things you may ask for a netbook. Its battery also lasts for 12 hours and it looks like Nokia is guaranteeing it that you can use it for absolutely 12 hours. It has a keyboard with correct positioning for the right shift key. And the display is also wider than most netbooks in its 1280 x 720 resolution. When it comes to number of ports available around it, its not being left behind and it actually has extra port for HDMI output.

But this reminds me of a cliche I am reminded of, “Don’t judge the book by its cover”. Because inside this pretty booklet is something less.

The Nokia Booklet 3G uses Intel Atom Z530, which according to Yugatech’s comparison, the Z530 performs slower than N270 by 3.5%. But given that, the Nokia Booklet will also eat lesser power from the battery and gives you 12 hours. Another thing you might want this booklet should change is the soldered 1GB RAM to its motherboard. It means that you cannot easily upgrade the RAM in case you want to. But if you possess a gift of soldering, it wouldn’t be much of a problem if you try to replace it with bigger memory, apart from voiding the warranty. Just make sure the replacement RAM you will use will work on it.

Nokia Booklet 3G

The Nokia Booklet 3G is Nokia’s first entry on the market. The netbook will be on sale in the US soon, but before it, Dana Wollman of LaptopMag was able to get her hands on it for quick overview. Basically, what make it stand out from other netbooks is its solid build quality. It has aluminum body which gives a light weight to the netbook, but according to Dana it’s not as lighter than you think. The keyboard has some cons too, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. Like most netbooks, it has 3 USB ports along the side. It also has built in 3G module and HDMI output. Probably, this netbook brings all we expect for perfect mobility.

Nokia unveiled their first entry for the netbook category last month. And while it’s not yet available on the shelves, some guy was already able to get his hand on this netbook and shot a video while unboxing it.

What’s inside the box is the netbook, power charger, and a short message that could mean “Hello”. Outside of it is the color Blue.

Nokia, world leader in Mobile Phones is now officially jumping on the Netbooks bandwagon. We’ve heard about rumors before and now, the mobile phone company is announcing the Nokia Booklet 3G that promises up to 12 hours battery life per charge. The Booklet 3G will also come with integrated Wifi, 3G and GPS. It will be powered by an Intel Atom processor and will have available HDMI output for high definition videos. Full device specification has not been announced yet as well as the price and release date.

HP Mini 1000 ‘Hidden’ 3G module

The HP Mini 1000 is the 2nd netbook from HP which replaces the VIA processor from the previous 2133 and uses Intel Atom. It has SSD storage of 8GB/16GB, and 60GB HDD options. RAM is reduced to 512MB compared to previous 1GB. Lots of differences from the 2133 brother.

Some are now surprised because it seems that HP missed to announce that HP Mini 1000 comes with built in 3G module. And you won’t worry about installing external 3G PCIe card anymore. The only problem is that the 3G module is disabled initially, and software/driver is not by default included in the package. But it’s also not a problem anymore how to enable it. dplxy has some pretty good details on how he enabled the 3G feature on his HP Mini 1000. Head on and check it out.

MSI 3G Plans

MSI Wind U120 will be launched in the coming days, and while 3G module is expected, MSI is also going to negotiate with telecom providers to increase bundled sales. – Digitimes. Same has been tried before, bundling the netbooks with external broadband modem. In the Philippines, Globe and Smart Telecoms had different campaigns for Asus Eee PC, however, I have not heard about their successes. Consumers seem to be not satisfied with the pricing, as I learn from some blogs and forums.

Now I have no idea what will telecoms do with their pricings when 3G module already comes with the netbook itself. I suggest they do the same as the mobile service plans they currently have, where they charge monthly service fee, and the unit comes free… Or at lesser prices depending on service plans.

I’m actually exited for this, and I’m gong to consider getting one for me. Shall this come true before christmas?

How-to install internal 3G HSDPA on Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000H

As you may have already thought, one important thing the Eee PC 901 and 1000H lack is the readily setup 3G HSDPA, though Asus provided an open PCIE slot so you can practice your soldering talent and add the 3G card on your own effort at your own risk. And if you want to try, the ingredients are made available for you as well.
Ingredients: miniPCI-E connector (thin enough to fit inside the case), SIM Socket (1.5 mm height), metal screws to secure miniPCI-E, HSPA or EVDO miniPCI-E card, Coaxial wire with an U.FL connector, Spare cell phone antenna. [source]

Now, for the cooking procedure, there’s only one place you need to go and you’ll be good. jkk has all the knowledge you need to install 3G HSDPA on your Asus Eee PC. Beware though, that you have to be really good on the hot rod since soldering the mini PCIE is not easy to do. Actually, jkk have already claimed to not assist you in this matter right before you ask for it.
