Asus EEE PC 1218 – awarded for its looks, but also with some power
One of the most interesting netbooks i laid my eyes on these last weeks is by far the Asus EEE PC 1218. This is a 12 incher as you can reckon from the name, but it’s not like the other 12 inch netbooks the Taiwanese producer has, but a lot better in terms of looks. In fact, this device is so beautiful it was rewarded with a 2010 Red Dot Design Award, and for good reason i have to say. Just check out the pictures below.
You will notice the silver/black aluminum case with a very sleek and slim profile. And you’ll also spot that all the ports have been moved on the back and that ads a lot to the overall aspect. And It’s quite comfortable to have them placed that way. I’m not sure where they placed the audio-out jack though, if it’s also on the back, that might not be so convenient for those of you using headphones with a shorter cord (like i do).
Anyway, I’m sure you can’t argue with me that this Asus 1218 is by far the best looking netbook you’ve seen so far this year.

Asus 1218 EEE PC - great looks and good hardwareAsus 1218 - silver or black aluminum finish
We have no exact info on when it will be available in stores or how much will it cost. Nor we know nothing for sure on the hardware and specs, but there are some rumors from Digitimes though claiming it will offer the new Nvidia ION (probably paired with an N450 processor and maybe a dual core D500 later on) and it is supposed to cost the equivalent of $600 in Taiwan. However, prices are higher there than in the US, so expect it to be cheaper once it lands in the States.
More details should be available soon, as Asus plans a big event on May 13th when they’ll announce a couple of new devices. That rumor was a bogus. Still there’s nothing new on the 1218, but we’ll update once we find new stuff. So stay tuned for more info on the Asus EEE PC 1218 in the next weeks.
