Asus EEE PC 1016P – business style catches on netbooks

If you’re a business man always on the go and in need of a light computer to carry around, you will most-likely go for an ultra-portable from Sony or Toshiba. However, if you don’t plan on spending thousands of bucks for it, there are some netbooks that could easily replace those, like the Asus EEE PC 1016P we’re going to talk about in here.

Unlike the Asus EEE PC 1018P which focuses a lot on top-notch technology and ultra-slim design, but will be probably quite expensive, the Asus 1016P is meant for us regular mortals. In a couple of words, this device is a merge between the benefits of having a netbook (light, compact, portable, affordable) and the build-quality and aspect of superior business laptops.

In terms of looks, the EEE PC 1016P comes with an all-matte aspect, including an annonized aluminum black finish for the casing, palm-rest and the area around the display. Display that is in fact a 10 inch LED blacklit one, but also matte. Thus, this netbook will be worthy of life on the road, being scratch and smudges resistant and having this screen that should be quite good when used in direct light conditions. In terms of size and weight, the 1016P is not as impressive as the 1018P; it’s just within the limits of the 10 inch class, probably weighing around 2.7-2.8 pounds.

I do have to remark the excellent chiclet keyboard and that huge trackpad (also matte), an improvement from what Asus has to offer these days on its mini laptops.

Inside you’ll get the standard PineTrail hardware: N450 processor, 1-2 GB of memory, 160-250 GB storage, Good conectivity (Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth 2.1) and a big battery (there will be more options, the top one being probably a 6 Cell 6300 mAh one which should provide around 10+ hours of life in everyday use).

All in all, the 1016P is definitely a winner. It’s not going to be the direct successor of the existing 1005PE line, as it will be part of the Asus Diary EEE PC line, and not of the Seashell series. A series meant for exactly what this device is made for: portability and reliability, characteristics needed when traveling a lot.

The Asus EEE PC 1016P should be officially launched pretty soon and I believe we should see it in stores be the middle of this year. There aren’t any info on prices, but hopefully they won’t pass the 400 bucks margin once this netbook reaches the States.

Stay tuned for more info, we’ll update with new posts once we know more.
