Asus 1018P reviewed – adored for its looks and build quality

The Asus 1018P first saw the light of our flashes in March at CeBIT and ever since, it promised to be quite a machine. Not one that would impress with its performances and multimedia capabilities, like the Asus 1215N EEE PC, but one that will get the bar high when speaking about design and construction for these compact machines.

And indeed it does. Continuing the work of other fancy EEE PCs before it, like the 1008HA and the 1008P-KR , this one comes with a new design and layout, plus new materials used for the entire casing. Mike at Netbooklive.net managed to get his hands on the white version of this Asus EEE PC 1018P and put together quite a thorough review.

The white version is encased in a textured plastic casing, one that feels pretty nice and will for sure face fingerprints and scratches OK in time. Now, these are some of the first live pictures of the white 1018P and I can say it looks pretty nice.

It does not come with an aluminum lid cover like the black version, but aluminum is used inside, for the area around the screen and keyboard. Plus, the entire palm rest and trackpad are made out of it too. So pretty good materials used for this netbook, and together with the special attention given to the details, they make the 1018P one of the most solid and best looking 10 inchers on the market.

I should also mention it is only 0.7 inch thick and weighs only 2.4 pounds, with a 4 Cell battery inside, enough for around 5 hours of life on a single charge. Fair.

Now, there are many other details that make the 1018P a netbook you will probably want to buy, including its features (with top notch connectivity: 3G, Bluetooth 3.0, UBS 3.0 and slightly improved hardware: N455 Atom processor with DDR3 memory support) and affordable price (around 400 bucks).
