The Eee Box ExpressGate

The team attended the Eee Box and Eee PC 1000H press launch and got our first impression of the Asus ExpressGate. Although, we were not able get our hands on it.
The Asus ExpressGate is basically a Splashtop embedded on the motherboard to give instant access to internet in a matter of seconds. ExpressGate has 4 main buttons that gives access to Internet Browsing, Photo Viewing, Chatting and Skype. It also offers multi-tasking for added convenience. In essence, with Splashtop, you will still be able to enjoy your Eee Box even without loading your primary OS. But if you really need to access other applications outside Splashtop, booting with your primary OS will start with a single click.

Asus Eee PC 1000H and Asus Eee Box Press Launch
Asus Eee PC 1000H is now available in the Philippines @ 29,990 (about $750 USD) Php. Eee Box will be available on the 2nd week of August due to some delays in shipping. Price for Eee Box is 24,990 Php (about $625 USD).
The Eee PC 1000H won some stars over other netbooks for its Atom based processor, 1.3 MP camera and more importantly, the 6-cell battery. It is confirmed that all units shipping in the Philippines will have 6-cell batteries.
On the other hand, I was a bit impressed by the Eee Box;s almost-instant-on boot up. As it was being demoed, the audience started counting from the time the power button was pressed and at exactly 5 seconds, the Splashtop OS was completely on screen. They call it ExpressGate and only ASUS has it. With Splashtop, you might be able to enjoy the net as it has the Splashtop browser, IP TV and more. You also have the capability to switch to Windows OS anytime with a single click of a button.

Up Next: Win a Crystal Case for you Eee PC
This month, we’re giving away one (1) icy cool Crystal Case for your Eee PC. However, it will only fit on your 700/701 units. That’s quite not cool I know. But I hope you still join the contest. Who knows, we may still be able to change the item if it’s not what you want?
And do you know that the case I am talking about is super cool and clear? Take a look at this.

Image from Brando.
Do you ever notice it’s covered with a crystal case? Now, do you want to own it?
Okay, same mechanic. One (1) comment = one (1) entry. Only one entry is allowed. If you want another entry, you must subscribe to feeds via email. Clear?
And I want to make some clarifications. Subscribing via feed readers won’t allow us to see who you are, and we can’t count them as entries for our contests. Please use the email subscription box on the side.
And as for the prize, our reservation is not yet confirmed. So in the case we won’t be able to avail one, I will replace it with a better item that will surely make the winner smile like this

Installing Windows XP on Eee PC, Made Easy

I was really tempted to move try Windows XP when I learned the easiest way (thus far) how to install it on Eee PC. And the fact that installing the latest Ubuntu Eee failed me, I cannot help the temptation. I installed Windows XP nLite version, and I’m planning to install a full version.
Here are the easy steps I’m talking about:
- You need to have USB_PREP8, PeToUSB, Bootsect.exe
- Format your USB Drive.
- Load boot sector.
- Load Windows XP install CD to USB.
- Install Windows XP to Eee PC.
Now to make it easier, here’s the detailed steps. Read more…
MSI Wind now in Manila. Specs, Pictures and Price list
Looks like the biggest competitor for the Asus Eee PC line has arrived. If you can remember, MSI Wind pushed back their shipping date twice but they still come out big. The specification looks promising and very encouraging for the customers. But the battery is still not.
