Enabling the Camera on eeeXubuntu
Why have I forgotten to enable my camera? Because it’s too tiny to see, and I don’t use it so frequently, I forgot to enable the camera on my asus eee. Well, at least I got it working now.
The built in camera is not enabled by default from from the BIOS. You have to manually enable it or you can follow the steps on wiki so you can turn on and off that tiny eye at will while logged in.
I have not installed Skype yet but I guess it’s the right time to do it. I wanna know if it’ll go smooth as well.
Who says eee is underpowered?
When Asus Eee PC came out first, every review I read before I bought myself one is positive. The major drawback I heard from some users though is its underclocked processor, the 4G SSD, and its low screen resolution. All these were resolved now. Thus, underpowered.
- 4G SSD – somebody has already increased asus eee disk space and was successful indeed.
- Screen Resolution – the default 800
Asus Eee is Good while Power Supply lasts.
It’s like Asus Eee is still far from breaking 1 Million sold units record like the iPhone. Much farther when their running out of power supplies.
But, shipment of the brand’s hottest-selling Eee PC, a budget-price laptop, is estimated at only between 650,000 and 700,000 units for the quarter due mainly to a shortage of power supplies. [Read source...]
So why this thing happen? Some guys at eeeuser.com blog say it’s really hard to get supplies while other says it’s just around their estore around the corner.
But I think Power Supplies are not really scarce. I think Asustek can’t find a really low deal for their best-selling hotcake. Yeah, because Asus Eee is selling at a very low price and to stay at the low price, they should find a low-priced supplies as well.
This is only an opinion and you are very welcome to object.

AbiWord uninstalled + GNumeric Spreadheet
I ditched Abiword and Gnumeric today. Just because my I think OpenOffice has a lot more features than this. And I also removed Gnumeric Spreadsheet because it doesn’t look so nice to me.
Anyway, I’m not gonna use OpenOffice and I don’t know why I installed it. It uses about 10% of disk space and it’s already big bite for my 4G. I like it, maybe because I get 3 office applications from a single source. (Open Office)
Installing it doesn’t take much, btw. Simply install it the way you install / uninstall applications on eeeXubuntu.
Let’s see if I can setup the toolbars the way it was setup on default Xandros. Let’s see.
How to uninstall games – eeeXubuntu
It’s like normal process you do when removing applications from your Windows OS. All you need to do is find the Add/Remove application and be ready to select applications you do not want. Basically, you can install and uninstall anything available in it.
Applications > System > Add/Remove…
That’s it.
How to show/hide the battery icon?
I got annoyed of the “battery is broken” warning message so I changed the settings to only show the battery icon when the battery is critically low. But it’s like it’s not working as it should. My eee pc just shutdown by itself without any warning after a couple of hours when unplugged. I have been searching for this since the day I disabled the battery icon to show on the system tray. Glad I finally discovered how to do it. And it’s very simple. I’m a total noob.
Application > Settings > Screensaver Settings > Power Management > General tab
-
Available options
- Only display an icon when battery power is critically low
- Only display an icon when charging or discharging
- Only display an icon when battery is present
- Always display an icon
I believe the 4th option is set by default. I have tried the first option, it did not work as I expected.
